This museum, distributed over six different buildings, is one of the most important and interesting in Galicia. It has more than 16,000 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, etchings, archaeological objects, coins, musical instruments, everyday utensils, furniture and jewellery.
1- Castro Monteagudo Building (s. 18th): Archaeology, pre-Roman and Roman gold and silverware, popular and civil gold and silverware and Spanish, Italian and Flemish paintings from 15th to 18th centuries.
2- García Flórez Building (18th C.), adjoining the previous one, it contains jet, etchings, religious sculptures, Sargadelos ceramics, the office of Admiral Méndez Núñez and a reproduction of the chamber of the Numancia frigate.
3- Fernández López Building, in the same square as the previous ones, it is the museum’s administrative headquarters and research centre.
4- Sarmiento Building (18th C.) next to the church of San Bartolomeu, it is used for temporary exhibitions.
5- Ruins of the Convent of San Domingos (14th and 15th C.): Architectonic remains of varying origins.
6- Sixth building used for temporary exhibitions. The collections of Spanish paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries and Galician contemporary paintings will soon be part of the permanent exhibition in this building.
